The
Museum "Le Fudine" was created in 1998 by the will of the
Communal Administration of Malegno with the purpose of giving a description
of one of the most typical and traditional artisanal workings in Valcamonica:
the ferrarezza.
The aim of the Museum is not only to show the working of the hammers,
but also to bring visitors back into our ancestors' world, through
objects, images and texts. In the first room there are the hammer
and the tina de l'ora, which was used for insufflating air. Through
a small door we get to the end of the museum where we can see a wheel
and part of a shear. The wide room in front of these objects is now
a room for exhibitions and lectures, which keep the museum up-to-date.
By going back through the first room we get into a second wide hall
which houses two big hammers, whose hydraulic wheels (necessary for
their functioning) are kept outside. Two small rooms are connected
to this hall and house panels which take visitors into the world of
past myths and memories. Through a door and a small bridge, situated
at the end of the second big room, we get into a last room which once
housed the shear.
The itinerary of the museum, developed by the Archaeological Co-operative
Society "Le Orme dell'Uomo", is called: "Iron: a metal
between sky and earth" and aims at recreating the image of the
blacksmith: a nomadic character, skilled in the metal arts, a poet,
a physician at the beginning of medicine
